It rather depends on the application, level of detail requested and the amount of BCP time required. Prices also vary from provider to provider, based on their own level of experience, specific services and so on. Birkman is never going to be seen as a low price option, but the better question is, how much value does Birkman provide?

That is actually what you are looking for: outcomes that matter to you. Putting a fair price on that is a quite different matter from doing a simple price comparison: you wouldn’t base a decision on whether to buy a tent or a house on the fact one is cheaper; the tent is always going to be cheaper, but you might not want to spend the next twenty years living in it.

Neither should you focus on price when it is a choice between a cheap disposable tool or something which will deliver value, right now and for years to come.

How much does Birkman cost?

Absolutely. Many Birkman Consultants around the world focus primarily on coaching individuals, and Birkman providers in NZ and Australia are all equipped to do Birkman with individuals.

Can individuals take Birkman?

Certification is required in order to access and deliver Birkman Signature and related reports for clients, whether internal or external. Specifically, any version of Birkman which includes the Birkman Behavioural Components must be delivered by a BCP (Birkman Certified Professional). You can find out more about Certification on the Certification Page. There are versions of the Report - Birkman Essentials, Kokkoi’s Snapshot+ and Grow Report, Elaura’s expresso and hoozyu platforms - which do not require Certification to deliver, although it is advisable to get appropriate training if you intend delivering any of these on a regular basis.

Is Certification required to use Birkman with my clients?

Yes, in large corporates, individual coaching, and youth development settings; but nowhere near as much as it deserves.

Is Birkman used in New Zealand?

Birkman is much better established in Australia, with a much larger number of Birkman Certified Professionals and a wider range of end-users.

Is Birkman used in Australia?

Yes, absolutely. Globally, a significant proportion of TBM users are psychologists. These includes Coaching, Occupational, Industrial, Organisational, Career, Behavioural, Business Psychologists and Psychometricians.

Birkman does not authorise use of the TBM for clinical diagnosis; however, Clinical Psychologists who focus on preventative mental health & wellbeing may find TBM a valuable addition to their practice.

Can psychologists use Birkman?

Birkman is very suitable for use in recruitment selection, for this reason: it gets behind what we might call “the Presentation Layer”. That is, every person wants to put on the best possible performance in an interview setting - even when they are not particularly suited to the job on offer. Unfortunately, for some decades now, tertiary institutions (and now AI) have majored on helping students to “look like a good match”. This is in absolutely no one’s interest - neither the job applicant nor the potential employer. TBM does not offer any kind of pass/fail measurement; what it does do is far more profound. It allows you to ask the right questions.

Additionally, once you have made your hiring decision, that same TBM data is going help you support the successful candidate through onboarding, team integration and ongoing development. TBM data is stable in individuals for at least 5 years (anecdotal evidence suggests much longer than this), which means the same data you support the hiring process with, can also power your ongoing Talent, OD, L&D and HR efforts.

Is Birkman suitable for recruitment?

Whilst many New Zealanders and Australians of different cultures have completed and benefitted from using TBM, there have not been studies to validate either New Zealanders as a whole, or specific cultures within NZ, against the existing TBM population norms.

The same is generally true of Australia, although some years ago, a comparative sample of Australian profiles was run against the baseline Western Industrial population (ie people from the US and Canada, employed in large organisations); and it was found to largely match the Western Industrial population in terms of distribution of scores.

What can be said is that across all cultures and language groups, similar distributions of scores on all scales are observed.
